Hobbies: Retired R.N., crochet, gardening, helping family run our business
LAUREL FORK RUSTIC RETREAT is a private gated community bordering The Big South Fork National River and Recreation area. We have been a family run business since 1996 and started renting the first cabin in 1997. We offer fully furnished luxury log homes for rent to visitors of the area. From the beginning we did a web site and made it easy for guest to book reservations by offering the ability to do so online. All cabins have washer, dryers and all but one have dishwashers. Most of them have hot tubs and many have jetted tubs inside as well. They all have phones and some have wireless internet access that is free to our guests. Most of them have gas grills. Two have outdoor fireplaces and others offer fire pits so guest can enjoy the outdoors. We developed property we owned which borders the recreation area to make it possible for busy folks to have a vacation home to use part time and allow us to rent them when not being used by themselves. This allows the owners to help offset the cost of having a vacation home. Those lots backing up to the park were the first to sell. It is only a short walk to the Laurel Fork hiking trail and the Yellowcliff/Salt Pine horse trail. We were recognized in the July 2008 issue of Southern Living Magazine when a reporter came to write an article about the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area and chose to stay with us. Guests have come from all over the US and many foreign countries.
As owners we pride ourselves in guest satisfaction. Two years after starting to rent the first cabin we made the decision to move from Scott County to be near the development. We now live at the entrance to the development and maintain an office in our home. There we meet guests, give them literature, maps and tell them about local things to see and do. But most important we are here to help them with any problems they may have while here. Including but not limited to relighting gas fireplaces when they accidently turn off the pilot light, helping with satellite TVs, airing up flat tires, giving directions to local attractions and on one occasion driving an injured horse rider to the hospital.

Hello, my name is Mara Tuumbo, owner of Art Expressions Studio in Rugby on the Cumberland Plateau. I was a travel agent and tours coordinator in Africa for 30 years and a banqueting manager in an Italian restaurant in Florida for six. Moving to Tennessee, my love of art and people has turned my hobby into a new career, I am certified in several techniques starting with the popular folk art, One Stroke Painting made famous by TV star Donna Dewberry. My yearn to learn more prompted me to try pottery, China Painting and finally Fine Art in the style of Kathwren and Gary Jenkins, also renowned PBS artists. In October last year I certified as one of their International instructors, and as such I look forward to assisting the Jenkins with overseas workshops. In the meantime closer to home I hold "Painting In One Day" classes in my Rugby studio, at the Cumberland Art Society in Cookeville, Fairfield Glade Art Guild in Crossville and at the Friends Cafe in Clarkrange. I'll be glad to teach anywhere else small groups invite me to teach within driving distance from Rugby. I also host famous TV artists once a year and in October this year Darrell Crow will be my guest. Full information on my website:
