Wendy Askins serves as the Executive Director of the Upper Cumberland Development District. The Tennessee General Assembly established the Upper Cumberland Development District in 1968 to serve as an economic development resource for the Upper Cumberland region. “We are still about the business of economic development, but we are also a lot more”. Simply stated, the overall mission is to improve the quality of life for the residents of the Upper Cumberland area.

We accomplish our mission through myriad programs and projects designed to meet the needs of our region. We operate housing programs for low-income and other underserved populations; we help local governments and communities plan and prioritize transportation projects; we help families rearing relative children; we offer numerous services designed for older adults and adults with disabilities; we write grants for infrastructure, environmental assistance, and parks and greenways. We work with the local Arts community, and we administer programs and projects designed to protect, preserve and promote the unmatched cultural and natural resources of our region.

Over $75 million a year passes through our agency to provide the kinds of services that UCDD is known for, and we are always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to serve our communities and the Upper Cumberland Women’s Club is important to the region.

Hobbies: Dogs, dogs, dogs...breeding occasionally (Great Danes only) and showing them to their championship.

All About Pets

ALL ABOUT PETS: Your One-Stop Pet Care Center, We do it all at reasonable
rates: Pet Boarding, Grooming, Bathing, Deshedding, Nail Clipping, Nail
Painting, Teeth Brushing, and Flea and Tick treatments, and yes, deskunking!
We offer house breaking services in conjunction with puppy daycare, or just
babysitting your pet for a day. We have a trainer for your basic or
advanced obedience needs, and our supplies, though limited, are of the highest quality.

Our BOARDING facility, consisting of climate-controlled indoor/outdoor runs
are kept meticulously clean, and are therefore odorless. (The owner is
German....enough said). You can reserve playtime in our nice, grassy play
yard during which we emphasize human contact between our dog-crazy staff and
your pet and consequently we pick up on anything that might be amiss. best
testimonial: our returning boarders drag their owners into our kennel! It can't get better than that!

While the above is more tailored to our dog population, we cannot forget out
FELINE friends! We have a totally separate cattery from the dog facility,
boasting very large kitty condos with comfortable resting benches, their own
litter box which is cleaned 2x a day and their own food and water dishes. If
your kitty is of the finicky persuasion, we encourage you to bring her own food.

We try to make the GROOMING experience as pleasant as possible. Our bathers
are dedicated "dog people" and that translates into how they handle pets and the
dog "gets it". Most of the time they end up with dog kisses. What can I say
about our groomer? She is the proverbial "dog whisperer" She has a unique
talent to connect to the animals. Not only to dogs, but also to cats. (If
you ever bathed a cat, you know what I am talking about). But that is not
where it stops: she is an artist when it comes to clipping and scissoring a
dog and strives to meet your needs in every aspect. If you don't like it:
she'll fix it! All our pets are hand-dried, so no scorching is possible.
Needless to say we also cater to the needs of our short-coated breeds with
bathing, deshedding, toe-nail clipping and painting, teeth brushing, flea
and tick treatments etc. We use the correct ph-balanced shampoos and
conditioners for coat and skin care and all dogs go home with their tails
held high and wagging , smelling "heavenly" eliciting lots of compliments from their delighted owners.

PUPPY DAY CARE is a fun time for your pup. We usually do it in conjunction
with Potty Training. But that is not where it stops! Your pup is being
socialized (and that is an invaluable experience for the rest of his/her life).

A WELL-TRAINED dog is an enjoyable companion and can go many more places
than an untrained one. All dogs need leadership and it is your
responsibility to provide structure to their lives. Most people struggle
with that concept and think that loving their dog is enough and therefore
the dog should return their love by being a "good" dog. Unfortunately that
does not work in the world of dogs. We will teach you how to go about having
a "good" dog when you enroll in one of our obedience classes. We offer
basic and advanced obedience classes. (In reality we teach you how to train
your dog and become the pack leader .Once your dog understands that concept
the rest falls into place.) Can't make it to a regular class? We can
accommodate you with private lessons. When we get enough participants we can also
arrange for a "puppy kindergarten" for pups 8 weeks to 6 months old. The
emphasis there is on socialization, house breaking tips, prevention and
solving behavior problems, grooming tips and basic animal husbandry issues.
Of course they also learn some basic commands, but in a more relaxed and
age-appropriate fashion. Their attention span is just a lot shorter than an older animal.

We carry a premium dog food and chemically free dog treats in our RETAIL
STORE. We have a large selection of raw hide treats, bones and dog biscuits.
We also carry dog gear, like leather and unconditionally warranted fabric
collars and leashes, "foofo" and special training collars, grooming aids,
flea and tick products (Advantage, Advantix and Frontline Plus). Also "top
shelf" shampoos, conditioners and fragrances and of course there are plenty of toys to be had, too. Try us..you will like us!
